Cosmetic PRP Treatments
(Platelet-Rich Plasma)
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a non-toxic substance that accelerates healing. PRP is produced from the patient's own blood using a process called platelet enrichment activation. This non-surgical process allows the extraction of platelets from regular blood and their concentration to over 5 times normal. These concentrated platelets are used as a treatment for hair growth, skin rejuvenation, and injury reparation (see Regenerative Orthopedics).
How does PRP work?
-
Blood is drawn from a patient into a test tube, and then placed in a centrifuge for a spin.
-
Low gravitational force separates the plasma and platelets from the red and white blood cells. The increased concentration of the platelets is then combined with the remaining blood.
-
PRP can be carefully injected into the area of choice.
